Death Valley National Park 1st Day

After a nice stop at Valley of Fire in Nevada, we made our way to Death Valley. We had a route all planned out, but found out that the highway we planned on taking was closed due to flooding and mudslides that were still being cleaned up from October. With less time than expected for our first day there, we narrowed our activities.
First stop, Golden Canyon. A nice hike up the trail introduced us to the bizarre geological features of Death Valley. The canyon ended at Red Cathedral, named for the sudden uplift of red rock.
The view from behind showed the Panamint Mountains were Telescope Peak rises to the highest point in Death Valley's park.
There's the Red Cathedral!
This was part of the wall, but it looked like mud that had frozen while running down a cliff wall.
An old ladder used to help people climb over a narrow space.
These were a strange natural geologic feature -- looks a man-made drill spot.
