Photo Challenge: Day 156

I drove down to the Salt Lake City area with Colette, Jenna, and Cassie. We went down for the purpose of going to an MLS game - Real Salt Lake vs LA Galaxy. It was on my 101 list and I was excited to go. We went for a walk with Dad when we arrived and then we went to the game that night. I had so much fun, except for the part where Real lost 0-2 (defense wasn't playing so well and offense was struggling to connect). A few other friends joined us for the game, including my awesome cousin, Emily. Now that I've seen a professional soccer game, I want to see many more. Why have I waited so long to do this?

Photo Challenge: Day 151

I was at Whole Foods tonight and took time to actually look at all the veggies. It is amazing the variety that exists in the world. There were at least two other types of beets, several kinds of chard, and I didn't even know cauliflower came in any color but white!

Photo Challenge: Day 149

I had the opportunity to watch a friend, Mariah Leland, get baptized today. She even honored me and asked me to speak about baptism. I told my own interesting story - how I asked my 16 year old brother, Nathan, to baptize me. And how he was so nervous he dunked me 4 times before finally getting it right the 5th time. I then explained how we follow Christ's example when we are baptized and we also make a covenant with God to comfort His other children and stand as His witness. I then watched Mariah enter the waters of baptism. It was beautiful!
My Little and I went fishing today with a friend, Corbin. He showed us the ropes of casting and not getting the line tangled in the bushes around us. It was fun!

Photo Challenge: Day 144

This scene greeted my friend, Jana, and me as we came out of boot camp this morning in downtown. What is a goose doing just chilling on a tall-ish building?

Went for a hike in the Military Reserve with Jenna and one of her former mission companions, Natalie. It was a beautiful, windy day for a hike.

Photo Challenge: Day 141

I went to Ballet Idaho's performance of Swan Lake tonight. It was incredible. The music by Tchaikovsky, the dancing, and the story were enough to put my emotions through turmoil. At the end of Act 1, I wanted to cry for the injustice and heartache Prince Siegfried displayed about being forced to pick a wife. Then, the joy of meeting and falling in love with Odette, Queen of the Swans was exquisite. But the twist almost did me in when Odile, daughter to the evil wizard Von Rothbart, disguised herself as Odette and beguiled Prince Siegfried into declaring his love for her, dooming Odette to an eternity as a swan. I kept wanting to stand up and warn Prince Siegfried that the girl in the black tutu was clearly NOT Odette. To watch Prince Siegfried crumble in misery when he realized he'd been tricked was heart-rending. The prince ran after Odette, following her into the forest, to the edge of the lake and, well, basically groveled. Odette and Siegfried danced a re-uniting dance, the evil wizard showed up to tear them apart, and they followed their only course of tragic action - to drown themselves in the lake. Somehow, this broke the spell for the other young women turned swans and killed the evil wizard. What is it about romantic tragedies? They are so absorbing, frustrating, and beautiful...
